The Hampton Roads Chapter of WOW began in the spring of 2012 by Chris Wingard. Chris is a stay at home mom who does website design for an orphan ministry in Maryland, and in browsing their resource links, she came across Orphan Outreach and WOW. “Through a series of books, Bible study, and people, I have felt God calling me to step outside my comfort zone and do something radical for Him”, she says. “Starting a WOW chapter and being involved in the lives of Guatemalan orphans was my answer.”
Chris’s desire is to carry the story of God’s love to orphans while helping to provide for their physical needs. Her prayer is that her own children will grow spiritually and develop a compassion and motivation to care for those less fortunate. Chris believes that all Christians are commanded to teach the Good News (Acts 1:8) and to care for the orphans, widows, and needy (Proverbs 14:31, Proverbs 28:27, James 1:27). One of her greatest joys will be to visit Guatemala and introduce these little ones to their heavenly Father.
“Because of what Christ has done for me, I am compelled to share His gift with others. To Him be all the glory!”
